MICK O’SULLIVAN R.I.P.
It is with great sadness that we announce the death of our club President, Michael (Mick) O’Sullivan.
Mick arrived in Galway from his native Caherciveen in Co. Kerry in the later part of 1948. Fr Griffins Gaelic Football Club had been founded earlier that year in February 1948. Mick immediately joined the fledgling club. As a Kerryman he soon found himself being selected for the team and wore the Fr Griffins colours with great pride. His footballing career was interrupted by injury but despite this Mick became very involved in the affairs of the club and over many years was a valued member of the club as he organised club social events. These included the Annual Club Dinner, Scór talent competitions and quizzes. In more recent years Mick and Dell O’Sullivan organised the annual Mass for Fr Griffin and deceased members of the club. The Mass which was held each November is still an important date in the Fr Griffins Éire Óg calendar. Indeed, in the minutes of numerous AGMs of the club he is described as “Director of Social Activities”.
Mick worked as a purchasing manager for Corbetts and worked alongside the late Paddy Higgins, the late Finbarr Staunton and current treasurer of Fr. Griffins Éire Óg Matthew Deane.
Mick is survived by his dearly loved wife Dell, who was always in support at the various club functions. He will also be missed by his much-loved daughter Una. He was adored grandfather of Laura, Lisa, Daniel, Andraya and Thomas and great-grandfather of Heidi. He will also be sadly missed by his son-in-law Tom Scully (Loughrea), sister-in-law Marian Hanley and family, relatives, and friends.
Fr. Griffins Éire Óg club extend sincere condolences to Dell, Una and family. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dilis.
Private Requiem Mass on Saturday, 31st July, at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Church, Presentation Road. Funeral after Mass to Rahoon Cemetery.
